Most travel stories about Myanmar either begin or end at the same place: the ancient temples of Bagan. Located several hours from the old British capital of Mandalay, Bagan claims over 2,500 ancient temples across its landscape. Tourists abound. But since the country as a whole is still a novelty in the travel world, it's not hard to escape the masses and explore some of the smaller pagodas on your own. Here are a few of my favorite shots from a weekend trip to explore the famous temples. From the sunset views across the valley to statues laden in gold, it's a hard place to forget.
